A Test for all Women by Anyaa McAndrew

Posted on Thursday 18 September 2008

I have worked on behalf of women my entire life, starting in the 70’s in the rape crisis movement and even before that as a Juvenile Detention Officer assigned to a Center where young teenage runaways were locked up because they were running away from abuse and incest.  For the past several years I have been facilitating all kinds of sacred circles for women, fostering empowerment on all levels.

As Eve Ensler said, it is very difficult to rant against another woman. It’s triggered my own shadow and judgment about women who are unconsciously supporting Sarah Palin just because she is a woman, and my fears around totalitarian government in our future.

Please urge all the women you know to read the facts, and understand what is at stake. I urge you to pass on this information to every woman you know and ask them to pass it on to others.  I have devoted my website blogs for the past few weeks to this issue, and have entries from Eve Ensler, Gloria Steinem, and Defenders of Wildlife, that women can read starting at my homepage and scrolling down. www.goddessontheloose.com

Whether you feel that this approach is positive, negative, spiritual, un-sacred, whatever…..this is a test for us as women…..can we as a collective see through the charade?

Will women vote for her because she seems flashy & popular?  Will men vote for her because she is a babe, an Aphrodite?  As my friend Steffan says, she is beautiful and she kills things…a perfect choice for the Republican Party right now.

Barack Obama is our only choice for change, and I believe, as many others do, that he embodies the New Masculine in this country and on our planet in peril. Let’s send him courage, strength, and daily protection.

I am presently in Vancouver writing this and a Canadian Priestess just told me that Lincoln and Kennedy were the only 2 presidents that were not deliberately placed into office in our country…gee, if that is true, can we usher in another one, and keep him safe?  Is it possible to keep Obama safe with our daily prayers?

Goddess help us all work together to bring in a new era of diplomacy with others, recovery from addiction to over-consumption, and a renewal of Mother Gaia. Please VOTE in this election, and do whatever you can and feel called to do to support Obama for President.

Yes we can!

Women Against Sarah Palin: The Blog

Posted on Thursday 18 September 2008

On Wednesday, September 3, we sent out an email to 40 friends and colleagues asking them to respond to Sarah Palin’s candidacy as Vice President of the United States. They forwarded the letter to their friends across America. To date, we have received more than 140,000 responses from women of all ages and backgrounds. Below are their voices.

Friends and compatriots,

We are writing to you because of the fury and dread we have felt since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. We believe that this terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce—on the part of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate—that has a real possibility of becoming fact.

Perhaps like us, as American women, you share the fear of what Ms. Palin and her professed beliefs and proven record could lead to for ourselves and for our present and future daughters. To date, she is against a woman’s right to choose, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (as mayor she repeatedly brought up the question of banning books), gun control, the separation of church and state, and polar bears. Eve Ensler on Sarah Palin…a must read!!

Posted on Thursday 11 September 2008

I am having Sarah Palin nightmares. I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears. Maybe it’s their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one.  Maybe it is the fact that they live so comfortably on ice.

Whatever it is, I need the polar bears. I don’t like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about ,Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists. Palin: Wrong Woman, Wrong Message

Posted on Thursday 4 September 2008

Sarah Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Hillary Clinton. She is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.

By Gloria Steinem

Here’s the good news: Women have become so politically powerful that even the anti-feminist right wing — the folks with a headlock on the Republican Party — are trying to appease the gender gap with a first-ever female vice president. We owe this to women — and to many men too — who have picketed, gone on hunger strikes or confronted violence at the polls so women can vote. We owe it to Shirley Chisholm, who first took the “white-male-only” sign off the White House, and to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who hung in there through ridicule and misogyny to win 18 million votes.

But here is even better news: It won’t work. This isn’t the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need. Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It’s about making life more fair for women everywhere. It’s not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It’s about baking a new pie. (Continue reading…)
